BIOGRAPHY:

Education
Zvjezdana Stančić completed study of biology in 1992 at the Faculty of Science of the University of Zagreb and defended her diploma thesis under the title "Entomofauna of the garden in Konjščina in Hrvatsko Zagorje", and obtained the title of graduate engineer in biology - ecology. Master thesis she defended in 1996 under the title “Flora and vegetation of the surroundings of Konjšćina in Hrvatsko Zagorje”. Doctoral dissertation she defended in 2000 under the title "Grasslands of the Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class in northwestern Croatia". For the purpose of training, she was twice in Vienna:
• three months in 2001 at the Institute of Ecology and Conservation, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, University of Vienna ;
• nine months in 2002 and 2003 at the Institute for Botany, University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Science .

Employment
1992 - trainee curator at the Croatian Natural History Museum in Zagreb
1993-2004 - assistant at the Botanical Institute of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb
2010 - today - first as an assistant professor, then as an associate professor and now as a full professor at the Department of General Sciences, Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering, University of Zagreb

Scientific work
Scientific interests: non-forest vegetation (habitats), phytosociology, vegetation ecology, functional ecology, vascular flora, foreign invasive plant species, nature conservation, phytoremediation, heavy metals and entomology.
Zvjezdana Stančić has published more than 50 scientific papers that have been cited in databases (as of 12/07/2024): Web of Science more than 1100 times, Scopus more than 1300 times and in Google Scholar more than 1900 times.

Zvjezdana Stančić is the author of the "Phytosociological Database of Non-Forest Vegetation in Croatia", which is part of the international databases: “European Vegetation Archive” - EVA (http://euroveg.org/eva-database) and “sPlot - The Global Vegetation Database” (https://www.idiv.de/en/splot.html).
